Cardiomyopathy
Product Candidate Description
This is a three-component formulation used to treat patients with a disease for which current therapy consists of progressively reduced activity and cardiac transplant. Each component plays a specific role in reversing disease.
Laboratory Status
The individual components have been studied to great extent. The combination is now poised to be evaluated in a pig model of heart failure. If that is successful, then each component will be evaluated anew to confirm the mechanism(s) of action and optimum dosing.
Clinical Status
A small canine study was conducted in patients with advanced disease. Those animals experienced improved quality of life (increased activity level) and extended longevity. A double-blind crossover study in humans was also successfully completed with patients improving as measured by both objective and subjective parameters. No serious adverse effects were seen in either trial.
Path Forward
The pig study will be completed as soon as possible. The sequence of events to follow will be determined by that series of experiments.
