Influenza Infection
Product Candidate Description
This single molecule, which is not naturally occurring, has shown efficacy in combating infections caused by influenza A and B. It can be used upon appearance of symptoms to significantly decrease the duration and severity of disease without reported adverse effects. While other companies concentrate on vaccines that will be outdated with each new flu strain, Beech Tree’s approach will potentially treat all flu strains and can be used even when vaccines are not available.
Laboratory Status
In vitro work conducted by company scientists has show results suggesting that this product inhibits re-assembly of virus particles after infection of cells and virus uncoating. Confirmatory work has yet to be completed. On-going genomics studies are revealed mechanism of action.
Clinical Status
Anecdotal experience with this product candidate demonstrates the potential for rapid (less than 60 minutes) response to therapy. There have been no reported adverse events.
Path Forward
An IND application has been approved by the FDA.
